It’s been a long journey. We’ve had some moments of successes here and there. There were lots of moments when I thought “this is it!” and we’d put on the big boy underwear. And then the next week, Kolt was back having accidents left and right, and we go back to diapers. I was really struggling with knowing what was the right thing to do. I felt like Kolt was getting confused going back and forth between diapers and underwear.
So, about a month ago, I decided to say goodbye to diapers. No more going back and forth. Just underwear. This past week, I was really starting to get frustrated. Kolt was great at going pee on the potty. But would NEVER tell me that he had to pee, it was me, taking him every 2-3 hours. It was discouraging. But I felt like going back to diapers would just confuse him even more.
But this week, it was just like something clicked. All the sudden, he started telling me, “Mommy, I have to pee!” I’m so proud of him. I suppose he’s finally READY.
Potty training was not what I expected. I’m by no means an expert, but I have learned a few things…
1. It would just be easier if there was a formula that worked for everyone? But, that’s not the case. So, find what works for you and your kid.
2. It’s a lot about trial and error. Got an idea? Give it a shot. If it doesn’t work, don’t stress. Either forget it or try again later.
3. Give lots and lots of praise. Jump up and down, make your kid think you’re nuts. Whatever you do, don’t yell when they have an accident.
All I can say is…I hope being potty trained here to stay!
